Scholarship Barrel Race

A highlight of Saturday’s festival is the  interactive scholarship for graduating seniors enrolled in one of the five Clay County schools. The scholarship tasks the seniors to team up in groups of three to build a contraption that will be pushed, pulled, pedaled or carried through a barrel race during the festival. The participants are judged on their creativity exemplifying the theme of a “Turkey” and their time to complete the barrel race. The grand prize is a $500 scholarship per team member. Entries must be registered by Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Turn in entries at the Caboose or email Betty at claycountychamber@sbcglobal.net.

Entry Specifications

Team: Three graduating seniors enrolled in a Clay County High School. Teams must consist of both genders (i.e. one boy and two girls or one girl and two boys).

Task: Build a contraption that can be pushed, pulled, pedaled or carried through a timed barrel race. The entry and participants must exemplify the theme of a “Turkey.” Entries must be built prior to Saturday, April 20.

Particulars: Entries must be propelled by the participants – no motor, electricity or power-source allowed. Entries may not include live animals. Entries will be disqualified if any of the participants attend schools outside Clay County. Teams must consist of both genders (i.e. one boy and two girls or one girl and two boys). Turn in entries at the Caboose or email Betty at claycountychamber@sbcglobal.net no later than Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

Judging: 100 point scale (50 points for creativity, 50 points for timed race)

Prize: $500 per winning team member equaling $1,500 per entry. Scholarships are awarded at graduation. Barrel Race: Participating teams must meet at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at the courthouse square bandstand to prepare for the barrel race.
